'Ote'a & Aparima

Guidelines

  1. Groups must consist of a minimum of five (5) dancers (vahine and/or tane) and amaximum of 70.
  2. Group drummers & musicians will be limited to a maximum of fifteen (15) performers.Drummers/musicians must be appropriately costumed. Live music is encouraged, tapedmusic may also be used for Hura Ava Tau (amateur groups) only.
  3. Groups must have an entrance & exit routine. A Ra’atira or leader to direct the group isalso recommended.
  4. Although not required, groups should include either the “Hivinau” and/or the “Pa‘o‘a”during the ‘Ote’a. This is very traditional and usually included during the ‘Ote’a.
  5. Aparima costumes include natural fibers and/or pareos.
